Dr. Franklin joined the UAB faculty in 2007. Prior to joining the UAB faculty, Dr. Franklin worked in the electric utility industry for 10 years, mostly in the area of transmission system protection and control. His time in industry was spent with Georgia Power Company, Alabama Power Company, and Southern Company Services.

Dr. Franklin's current research interests are in the areas of power system protection, high voltage power line communication systems, and high voltage measurement methods. Recent research includes a project in the area of high voltage power line communication systems sponsored by Southern Company. The research resulted in the development of a method for testing energized power line carrier line traps.
