Dr. Grimes joined the UAB faculty 1994 as the Wallace R.
Bunn Professor of Telecommunications and the Executive Director
of the UAB Center for Telecommunications Education and Research.
At UAB he has taught the Telecommunications I/II graduate
courses in telecommunications and initiated research programs
in optical fiber technologies including plastic optical
fiber, short reach optical interconnection, wireless applications
in healthcare, applications of virtual reality technology
in healthcare, telemedicine, telework, and telecommunication
systems and services. Dr. Grimes is retired from AT&T/Lucent
Bell Laboratories where he researched switch architecture,
optical fiber technologies, wireless technology and features,
and optical interconnection within large switching and transmission
systems.
